Business in the Community (BITC) is a unique movement of businesses across the UK, and one of The Prince’s Charities, which aims to inspire, engage, support and challenge its 850+ member companies to continually improve their positive impact on society.
As part of their Business Action on Homelessness campaign, BITC engages businesses to support homeless people and those at risk of homelessness to gain and sustain employment. One of the ways they achieve this is by training up business volunteers to be job coaches and run employability workshops in the workplace.
I edited and wrote sections of two resources used by job coaches and businesses involved in this campaign – the Job Coach Handbook (N.B. link shows an example section) and the Client Support Network Guidance Pack.
I also worked closely with Debra Fearnshaw, BITC’s Head of Work Inclusion, to create six fictional case studies that could be used by employee volunteers with their clients on the Get Ready! programme, to talk through and plan for different workplace scenarios they might find themselves in.
